As the legal community turns its focus to Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie (UUBO), one of
Nigeria’s most prestigious law firms, a pivotal moment approaches. Effective January 8,
2025, the firm will inaugurate a transformative leadership team, signaling a new chapter in its
40-year legacy. Announced nearly a year ago, these changes reflect UUBO’s commitment to
visionary leadership and an evolving legal landscape.
Leadership Redefined
Dan Agbor, who has served as Senior Partner with distinction, retires after 35 years of
exemplary service. Agbor’s tenure has been marked by steadfast leadership, strategic
growth, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Under his guidance, UUBO
strengthened its reputation as a powerhouse in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and
financial services.
Taking the helm as Senior Partner is Aniekan Ukpanah, a highly respected figure within the
firm and beyond. With decades of expertise spanning real estate, banking and finance, and
infrastructure, Ukpanah’s ascendancy is a testament to UUBO’s dedication to cultivating
leaders from within. As he assumes this pivotal role, he will oversee a newly structured
leadership team designed to ensure a seamless transition and a robust future for the firm.
A Trailblazing Leadership Team
The incoming leadership team underscores UUBO’s emphasis on expertise and diversity. At
the forefront of this shift is Jumoke Lambo, a 34-year veteran of the firm, who will assume
the role of Managing Partner. Lambo’s extensive portfolio includes spearheading the firm’s
Telecommunications, Media, Technology, and Aviation practices while co-heading
Employment Law and Corporate Advisory. Her strategic insights and operational acumen are
expected to chart new directions for UUBO.
For the first time in UUBO’s history, the firm will also introduce the role of Deputy Managing
Partner, to be held by Ozofu Olatunde Ogiemudia. Known for her expertise in corporate
advisory, private equity, venture capital, and pro bono work, Ogiemudia exemplifies the firm’s
commitment to fostering gender-inclusive leadership. Her role signifies a progressive
approach to governance, with an eye on creating sustainable and inclusive policies.
Expanding the Leadership Framework
Two esteemed partners, Folake Elias-Adebowale and Yinka Edu, will join the Executive
Management Committee, further enhancing the firm’s governance structure.
Elias-Adebowale, a luminary in mergers and acquisitions, energy law, and private equity, will
bring invaluable insights to the committee. Similarly, Edu, celebrated for her work in fintech,
capital markets, and startup advisory, represents the forward-looking ethos that UUBO has
become synonymous with.
Looking Ahead
As this new leadership team takes charge, UUBO reaffirms its position as a beacon of legal
excellence, innovation, and thought leadership in Africa. The firm’s structural realignment
and generational handover of leadership reflect its ability to evolve without losing sight of its
foundational values.
From navigating the complexities of Africa’s energy transition to shaping the continent’s
fintech and venture capital landscapes, UUBO’s incoming leaders face an array of
challenges and opportunities. Yet, with their collective expertise and a proven track record of
excellence, the firm is well-positioned to navigate the future with confidence.
As the baton passes from one visionary team to another, the legal fraternity watches in
anticipation. Tomorrow, January 8, 2025, will not only mark a transition but also the
beginning of a promising new era for Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie.
